Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, has received an application for a Department of the Army permit for a dredging project in Garibaldi, Oregon.

According to applicant, the Port of Garibaldi, the main aim of the project is to maintain operational depth in the port.

The proposed project calls for maintenance dredging of the Port of Garibaldi boat basin. The project will dredge a total area of 7.9 acres, removing 24,000 cubic yards of sediment the first year and 11,000 cubic yards in each subsequent year, for the next 10 years.

The port will dredge the boat basin to -10 feet below mean low lower water (MLLW) with a maximum 2-foot allowance for advance maintenance dredging using the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88).

For the works, the applicant is planning to use a hydraulic suction pipeline dredge that will place removed material at the Garibaldi in-water flow-lane disposal site.

The deadline for sending written comments on the project elements related to water quality is July 20, 2016.
