All Set for Bathtub Reef Beach Opening

Business & Finance

The Martin County Board of County Commissioners has just announced that everything is ready for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly restored Bathtub Reef Beach.

This official event will take place on Thursday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. and the park will not be open for public access until Saturday, June 18, the Martin County said in its notice.

In January 2016, Martin County began a major restoration effort to restore Bathtub Reef Beach after hurricane damages sustained in 2012 and other erosion had taken its toll.

Key features of the Bathtub Reef Beach/Sailfish Point renourishment project include the addition of more than 325,000 cubic yards of sand to the beach, a renovated pavilion, restored parking lot, etc.

Senator Joe Negron, President-Designate of the Florida Senate, secured nearly 40 percent of the total project cost through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Beach Management Funding Assistance Program.

Martin County and Sailfish Point each paid 50 percent of the remaining project cost.
