Dean Marine Completes Dunkirk Harbor Dredging Scheme

Business & Finance

Dean Marine & Excavating Inc., a Michigan-based contractor, has concluded the dredging project for the City of Dunkirk’s boat launch in Dunkirk Harbor and has moved to the Cattaraugus Creek Harbor to dredge the Town of Hanover Boat Launch.

The Dunkirk project involved the removal of approximately 10,000 cubic yards of silt accumulation from the harbor to improve the boat launch and make it more accessible for local and visiting sports fishermen and recreational boaters.

The Hanover project will remove about 10,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel from the Hanover boat launch and access channel and will provide enhanced access to Lake Erie for recreational boaters who utilize the boat launch facility and privately-owned marina facilities in the harbor.

“The Hanover project was a more challenging project than the Dunkirk project due to the narrow width of the channel and the large size of the contractor’s equipment; however, the project is on schedule and should be completed before the end of the week,” said Dave McCoy, Chautauqua County Watershed Coordinator.

It will also help the New York State Office of Parks, which is now operating the former New York State Department of Environmental Conservation marina in Cattaraugus Creek Harbor.
