Everett Lowlands Studies Completed

Business & Finance

Two recently completed studies on the “Lowlands” of the Everett Smelter cleanup site in north Everett will enable the Washington Department of Ecology to prepare a cleanup plan for areas along or near the Snohomish River.

Ecology seeks public comments on two reports summarizing these studies through November 3 and invites anyone interested to a community meeting on October 15.

One study, called the Supplemental Remedial Investigation, provides a comprehensive view of the extent of contamination in the Lowlands.

It also identifies locations where soil, groundwater or surface water contain one or more pollutants at levels above state cleanup standards.

The other report, called a Feasibility Study, evaluates potential cleanup options for the locations affected by Everett Smelter contamination.

Ecology will use the studies to prepare a cleanup plan for the site that will be offered for future public comment.
