Queensland’s Coordinator-General is inviting people to have their say on the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Cairns Shipping Development project.

Prepared by Far North Queensland Ports Corporation trading as Ports North, the draft EIS describes the project and its potential environmental impacts, both positive and negative. The draft EIS was prepared in accordance with terms of reference approved by the Coordinator-General.

The project proposes dredging of some 4.4 million cubic meters of dredge spoil from the Trinity Inlet in order to make the Cairns shipping channel wider and deeper.

Submissions on the dredging of Trinity Inlet close next week, following the release two months ago of the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the project.
