VIDEO: Strathmere Beachfill Project

Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, has just released a video about the Strathmere Shore Protection Project, NJ.

Sand pumped ashore from a borrow area two miles off Corson’s Inlet is being used to build a dune 13 feet high and a berm (or beach) 50 feet wide.

The beachfill is part of a bigger project that includes southern Ocean City and all of Sea Isle City. The Army Corps awarded a $57.6-million contract to the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company to get the job done.

The initial construction is being funded 100 percent by the federal government as part of the Sandy relief Congress approved.

The purpose of the project is to protect the homes and other property in the community of Strathmere.
