RRC Conference Begins

The annual River Restoration Center (RRC) network conference which brings together professionals from all areas of river restoration will take place today and tomorrow at Whittlebury Hall, in Northamptonshire.

Royal HaskoningDHV’s Senior Environment Consultant Phil Williamson will speak at the conference about key considerations to make when carrying out channel management for flood risk and land drainage purposes during one of the workshops.

The session will draw on information and knowledge from a newly published handbook, entitled the Channel Management Handbook, which promotes good practice for channel management. The handbook, released in March of this year, was developed by a team of experts led by Royal HaskoningDHV.

“This year’s themes of people and process based river management, restoring river processes and natural flood management are particularly relevant to the Channel Management Handbook as the handbook proposes an approach to integrating all three of these topics when dealing with channel management for flood risk and land drainage purposes,” said Phil Williamson, Senior Environmental Consultant for Royal HaskoningDHV.

Written for the Environment Agency, the Channel Management Handbook brings together over 10 years’ worth of research and practice. Royal HaskoningDHV led a consortium of consultants and academics to develop the guide, including Colin Thorne (University of Nottingham), Karen Fisher (KRFisher Consultancy Ltd), Nigel Holmes (Alconbury Environmental Consultants), and Paul Sayers (Sayers and Partners LLP).
