Port Klang Dredging Wrapped Up

Business & Finance

The capital dredging project to deepen the Port Klang South Channel entrance from 16.5m to current 18.5m has been completed, reported the Port Authority (PKA).

This will allow Port Klang to receive mega-sized container vessels, with a round-the-clock tidal free access into the Port and a quicker turn around time.

The project is aimed to ensure that Port Klang is able to cater to the demand of shipping lines operating a new generation of ultra large container ships (ULCS) of more than 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units,” PKA said in a statement.

According to PKA, the dredging project began in November 2014 and was completed in late April, two weeks ahead of schedule.
