Cherry Grove Dredging Postponed

Business & Finance

The start of the Cherry Grove canals dredging project has been postponed until the fall of 2016.

The City postponed the project for one year after learning from its engineering consultants that material from other area dredging projects currently stored in the Tidewater Confined Disposal Facility (CDF) has not de-watered to the point where it can be removed from the basin by the intended October 2015 start date of the Cherry Grove dredging project.

Material from the Cherry Grove project is to be temporarily stored in the same basin until it de-waters and is then moved to a permanent disposal site. Given this situation, the City now intends to dredge the canals during the fall of 2016 through to the early spring of 2017.

The May 11 and 22 hearings that had been scheduled for Cherry Grove canals property owners who had submitted written objections to the city manager regarding their assessments have been rescheduled for June 11 and 30, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. The deadline for submitting written objections has been extended to June 30 at 9:00 a.m.

Property owners who have already submitted written objections of their assessments to the city manager do not have to provide another one. Their written objections will be preserved and included in the record.
