Experts to Review Jakarta Reclamation Project

The central government in Indonesia is suspending the implementation of the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project, also known as the Jakarta reclamation.

The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry’s (KKP) director general for marine, coastal and small island affairs, Sudirman Saad said that the Research and Technology Ministry had been ordered to review the plan drafted in conjunction with the Netherlands, reported the Jakarta Post.

The Ministry will gather maritime experts with the task to evaluate the project’s viability.

NCICD project, developed few years ago with the help of the government of the Netherlands, the government of Indonesia and Jakarta, is divided into three phases including construction of a sea wall and development of 17 artificial islets off the coast of the city.
