DTA Engenharia, a Brazilian-based company, was the winning bidder of a massive $134.5 million worth Port of Paranaguá dredging contract, reported the Secretariat for Ports (SEP).

The next step in the bidding process is the qualification phase.

The contract comes as a part of the National Dredging Program II, under which approx. $1.6 billion is going to be invested by the end of 2015 for dredging of 20 Brazilian ports.

This work is part of the SEP program for improvements that make our ports more competitive, reducing costs and streamlining operations,” said Minister Edinho Araújo.

The project will deepen access channel to the port, turning basin and public berth, allowing Capesize vessels to safely navigate in and out of the port.

According to SEP, DTA Engenharia will have a period of six months to carry out all necessary preparations and planing, with 11 months to perform the actual work.

The Port of Paranaguá is administered by the state authority the Port Administration of Paranaguá and Antonina (APPA). Currently, it is one of the most important maritime trade centers in the world, combining strategic location to one of the best port infrastructures in Latin America.
