HR Morris Completes Channel Islands Dredging

Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the latest maintenance dredging project at Channel Islands Harbor.

The project removed about 2.3 million cubic yards of material from the entrance and sand traps, placing the material on the down coast beaches.

Contractor, Manson Construction Co., of Seattle, Washington, dredged the harbor from October 14 to January 29, at a cost of about $13.5 million.

Cutter suction dredger HR Morris took the project and through the network of pipes that run under the Channel Islands Harbor entrance across Silver Strand Beach and under the Port of Hueneme Harbor entrance, delivered sand to Hueneme Beach.

According to the Corps, next maintenance dredging is planned for Fiscal Year 2017.
