Atlas Provides Professionals to New Suez Canal Project

Business & Finance

A consortium consisting of the world’s biggest dredging companies has started on the “New Suez” Canal project in Egypt.

The companies will work together to create another canal that will run alongside the existing Suez Canal, in order to allow ships to simultaneously pass one another. Atlas Professionals is one of the agencies to provide marine professionals.

Atlas’ Dredging & Port Construction Business Manager, Evert Jan Van Slooten, said: “To be able to finish before the end of August next year, the dredgers will have to be shifting non-stop 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We have a number of people who have worked with these companies on several projects, which is one of the reasons why we have the opportunity to find the right professionals – ranging from Multicat Skipper to Cutter Engineer – for this prestigious project.”

In addition to creating a new canal, some existing sections of the current Suez Canal will be broadened and deepened. The estimation is that in total 250 million cubic metres of sediment will be removed.

The project has the ambitious deadline of completion within nine months.
