CFHC Gets New Dredger, the SAYURU

Ceylon Fishery Harbors Corporation (CFHC) has taken delivery of the self-propelled grab hopper dredger SAYURU. The dredger, built under the Grant Aid scheme of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will be one of the most technically advanced dredgers ever to operate in Sri Lanka.

The ceremony was held October 18th 2014, at the Dikkowita Fishery Harbor in the presence of Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Hon. Sarath Kumara Gunarathne, Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mr. Nobuhito Hobo HE the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Kiyoshi Amada, the Chief Representative of JICA, Sri Lanka Office, and other dignitaries.

SAYURU, powered by twin 625 kw engines, has overall length of 49.9m, breadth of 11.5m and depth of 3.4m. The dredging crane has a boom length of 19.50m with a hoisting capacity of 11.0t. The vessel is equipped with modern navigation and radio equipment making it one of the most technically advanced dredgers ever to be received by Sri Lanka.

With the delivery of this new 300m³ grab hopper dredger, CFHC will be able to undertake more maintenance dredging activities in Fishery Harbors. Additionally CFHC will be able to undertake capital dredging works related to harbor improvements or new harbor construction works as well as commercial dredging works.
