Engagement Strategy Launched for Aberdeen Harbor

Planning consultants Barton Willmore have been commissioned by Aberdeen Harbor, with support from Scottish Enterprise, to consult on a Development Framework that will identify and consider the relationship between the proposed Nigg Bay Harbor expansion and the development of the surrounding areas.

The study is designed to engage with communities and local businesses, and will specifically focus on Altens, East Tullos, and Nigg Bay. The study will also consider relevant planning policies and other proposals, including the emerging Local Development Plan, the adopted Aberdeen Harbor Development Framework carried out on the existing harbor and the forthcoming ‘City Centre Masterplan’.

A series of workshops and exhibitions will culminate in a report designed to inform the proposed Local Development Plan, which is expected to be published in 2015.

Colin Parker, Aberdeen Harbour chief executive, said: “We believe that open and transparent dialogue is key to this process and essential to us fully identifying all of the opportunities that the Nigg Bay Development could bring, whether it be to local business, local residents or in terms of local transport and amenities.”

The series of workshops will commence in Tullos Community Learning Centre Girdleness Road on 22 September, Aberdeen College Altens Centre, Hareness Road on 23 September and finishing with a Union Square Exhibition on 2nd October.
