Galveston Shipping Channels in Need of Dredging

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, is currently preparing a large-scale dredging project.

Under this plan, four areas will be dredged:

– Freeport Harbor Entrance Channel;

– Freeport Inside Channel;

– Corpus Christi Entrance Channel;

– Corpus Christi Inner Basin.

Approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards of material will be removed from both the Freeport Harbor Entrance Channela and the Freeport Inside Channel. The goal of this phase is to deepen the channels to a depth of 45 feet.

The Corpus Christi Entrance Channel is expected to reach a depth of 47 feet, and about 250,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged. The same amount of material will be removed from the Corpus Christi Inner Basin in order to reach the depth of 45 feet.

All material will be placed at Offshore Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS) Placement Area (PA) PA-1.

The total value of this project is between $5 million and $10 million, and the solicitation will be issued on or about 21 August 2014. Response date is 22 September 2014.

The project should last no longer than 145 days.
