Dredging on River Parrett Underway

The Environment Agency is currently dredging at both banks of the River Parrett downstream of Moorland House Farm.

They have so far removed over 7,600m³ of silt along a 445 metre length. There are currently 3 excavating machines working 5 days a week.

“We are spreading silt to land for agricultural betterment with permission from the landowner on the north bank of the Parrett and are currently putting silt on the back of the flood bank on the south side,” EA said.

“We are two thirds of the way through producing our design drawings; the final batch of drawings is planned for release in June. We continue to prepare the main works compound at Gillards Farm on Riverside and this should be operational week commencing 19 May.”

Over the next couple of weeks the following activities will take place:

– Dredging will continue downstream of Moorland House Farm on both banks of the River Parrett;

– EA will be moving into the main compound at Gillards in Burrowbridge.
