Minister Visits Malta Freeport Terminals

The Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business, Dr. Chris Cardona, together with Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis, recently visited the Malta Freeport Terminal Ltd.

During this visit, the parties discussed the stiff competition in the Mediterranean region between terminal operators. Freeport management briefed the minister about the Eur 175 million investment carried out in the past eight years as well as the ambitious investment being undertaken, including the expansion of the terminal in order to lure further shipping lines to Malta.

According to the port officials, the Minister has understood the competitive situation and the needs for further investment and expansion including the prompt action to be taken by government to allocate more land for terminal operations.

Freeport’s ambitious investment plan is totally in line with government’s commitment to help private companies to continue investing and expanding their operations in Malta as well as to strengthen the maritime hub.
