Rotterdam to Cooperate with Constanta Port

The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, argues that Constanta Port is of real interest for the Dutch partners and he wants Rotterdam to have cooperation relations with the largest Romanian port on the Black Sea.

There can be no competition. Rotterdam competes with ports in nearby countries – Belgium, Germany. Constanta Port serves the Black Sea area and that is why we want to cooperate“, said the Dutch Mayor, who visited the Port of Constanta, on board of the protocol ship Anghel Saligny.

According to spokesman of the National Company Maritime Ports Administration (CNAPM) Constanta, Monica Velicu, the Dutch delegation, headed by Mayor Aboutaleb was accompanied, during the visit to the port, by President of the County Council Nicusor Constantinescu, and by the Deputy Mayor of Constanta, Decebal Fagadau.

At the company’s headquarters, CNAPM General Manager, Prof. Dr. Lucian Balut gave a brief overview of the operational, investment and economic potential of the port, followed by a short cruise throughout which the most important zones of Constanta Port were visited, with development and expansion potential, the final point being the containers terminal in Constanta Sud-Agigea zone.

In 2011, representatives of the companies that manage the ports of Rotterdam and Constanta concluded a cooperation protocol, and after this event the two sides have had regular meetings to identify specific possibilities of collaboration.

The Dutch delegation accompanying the Mayor of the Port of Rotterdam also included Deputy Mayor Hamit Karakus, Chief Prosecutor of Rotterdam Region – Fred Westerbeke, Chief of Rotterdam Police – Frank Paauw, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Romania – Matthijs van Bonzel and the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands to Constanta – Dan Coman.
