Dutch Companies to Visit Murmansk Harbour (Russia)

A delegation of companies and research institutes, including IMARES and LEI, both part of Wageningen UR, travels to Murmansk in April to jointly identify opportunities for the expansion of the harbour.

Within Triple P@Sea, Wageningen UR maps how the harbour can grow in a sustainable manner. The expertise of various Dutch companies will be presented to the local authorities. The result of the mission would be the initiation of several Joint Industry Projects.

Murmansk needs a larger harbour to secure its future position as a gateway to the Arctic. Activities such as oil and gas, mining and shipping are increasing, so well developed harbours are indispensable. With the melting of the ice caps in the coming years, more and more ships will sail the eastern route. With approximately 50 ships, the route is currently only navigable a few weeks per year.
