USA: Piscataqua River Dredging Starts on Friday

The Piscataqua River dredging project is scheduled to commence on Friday and to end no later than March 15, reports seacoastonline.com.

According to Bill Kavanaugh, USACE, New England District, Project Manager, approximately 15,000 cubic yards of sand and gravel will be removed from the 35-foot-deep channel in the Piscataqua River above the I-95 highway bridge.

The Army Corps of Engineers has contracted Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Company of Quincy, Mass., to undertake this very important dredging project.

“This needs to be done about every seven to nine years,” Geno Marconi, director of the Port of New Hampshire said. “The sand starts to shoal in and cuts across the shipping channel.”

According to the Army Corps, the last dredging program in the mentioned area was undertaken in 2000.
