Van Oord Wins Constanta Port Breakwater Deal

Rotterdam based dredging and marine construction contractor Van Oord and the Romanian Transports Ministry have signed the contract for the completion of the offshore breakwater in the Port of Constanta.

Regarding this deal, Minister of Transports Relu Fenechiu, said: “This action complies with the ministry’s strategy we said we would implement, that of launching as many EU-funded projects as possible, this being a priority of my term.”

The total value of this development project is nearly EUR 150 million, reports actmedia.eu.

State Secretary with the Ministry of Transports Valentin Preda stated: “The completion of the offshore breakwater aims to expand the existing breakwater by 1.05 km, a fact that will improve the exploitation conditions and the safety of the vessels entering the Port of Constanta (the biggest Romanian port along the Black Sea). The project is pretty important for the Port of Constanta, which will become more attractive from the commercial viewpoint, as well as in security terms, and for the area-based companies that sub-contract the works for the Dutch entrepreneur.”

The Port of Constanta offshore breakwater project will be wrapped up by the end of 2014.
