Congressman Boustany Introduces RAMP Act in 113th Congress

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after introducing the Realize America’s Maritime Promise (RAMP) Act, H.R. 335, in the 113th Congress:

As we begin the 113th Congress, I want to highlight the need to fully allocate funding to keep America’s ports and harbors competitive. This bipartisan legislation guarantees funds collected on imports at ports within the United States by the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund are used for the sole purpose of dredging and maintaining the nation’s waterways. These funds play a pivotal role in ensuring our country remains a global leader in trade.

“In South Louisiana, our ports and harbors continue to serve as arteries of commerce while providing thousands of jobs. Whether from our farmers, our domestic producers, or our manufacturers, the vast quantity of local goods being shipped from numerous ports along the Gulf Coast provide the rest of the world with a glimpse of life in South Louisiana. I am committed to making sure our ports and harbors continue to act as catalysts sending the very best of Louisiana to waterways near and far.”
