Fiji: Nasali River Dredging to Begin Soon

The Nasali River dredging project would probably begin at the end of the first quarter of this year, according to Ravindra Narayan, the Rewa provincial administrator.

We have noticed there are a lot of poor drainage systems around the Rewa delta and dredging would minimise flooded in some parts of the area,” Narayan stated.

Rewa residents have raised their concerns on the frequent floods, said Commissioner Central Lieutenant Colonel Laisenia Tuitubou.

This has dampened the spirits of vegetable farmers who farm near the river, so dredging is required to stop the farms from being flooding,” he added.

It is estimated that this dredging program will cost about $3million, reports fijitimes.com.
