Great News for Samalaju Port

Samajalu Industrial Port Sdn Bhd expects construction of phase one of the RM1.8 billion Samalaju Port to be completed by the first quarter of 2016.

It will have an annual handling capacity of 18 million tonnes of cargo for industries operating in Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP), which is part of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score).

Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Mior Ahmad Baiti Mior Lub Ahmad said in the interim, the port plans to provide facilities for industries at SIP starting in the second quarter of next year with an annual handling capacity of four million tonnes of cargo.

“For future expansion, if the need arises, the port can handle a total of 30 million tonnes annually,” he said at a briefing on SIP’s progress attended by six assistant ministers, 19 Barisan Nasional assemblymen and 16 political secretaries led by Sarawak Assistant Minister for Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Julaihi Narawi.

Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd has been given the task to build, own and operate the Samalaju Port on some 450 ha. of land set aside by the state government.
