Carteret County said that the surveying contractor Gahagan & Bryant Associates (GBA) has begun surveying the area in preparation for the upcoming beach renourishment project.

"Crews will conduct land-based and water-based surveys. Land surveys will use a truck marked with the GBA logo and GPS equipment. Hydrographic measurements will be taken from a survey vessel marked with the GBA logo," the County said.

The beach renourishment project will consist of hopper dredging with placement and grading of up to 1,864,000 cubic yards of fill material over 46,600 linear feet along six beaches in Emerald Isle, Indian Beach, Salter Path, Pine Knoll Shores and Atlantic Beach. Manson Construction Co. of Seattle was awarded the contract for $37,6 million.

The survey work is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

According to the project contract, the beach fill work must begin by November 16 and be substantially completed on or before April 30, 2027, with final completion by June 30, 2027.
