South Australia’s Wakefield Regional Council has kicked off the major major maintenance and renewal works at the Port Wakefield Tidal Pool, which will see the construction of a new footbridge and a maintenance dredging project.
Civil Tech Pty Ltd was awarded the contract to deliver both the dredging works and footbridge renewal.
Mayor Rodney Reid said that the project had been a long time in the making for the Port Wakefield community: “The dredging works at the tidal pool and the new footbridge has been supported by grant funding through the State Government’s Enabling Infrastructure program.”
Maintenance dredging will be undertaken within the tidal swimming pool to remove accumulated sand and silt deposits ranging from approximately 150mm to 400mm in depth. The Council said that an estimated 1,600 to 2,000 cubic meters of material will be removed from the pool area over three weeks.
Dredging works at the Port Wakefield Boat Ramp will also be conducted once works on the Tidal Pool are completed.
