Contractors from Connolly Pacific are conducting breakwater repair work in Redondo Beach, California, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Redondo Beach-King Harbor breakwater repair project.

The rubble mount structure is one of the largest of its kind in Southern California and is overbuilt for safety as it dissipates wave energy to mitigate against coastal erosion and enables safer vessel navigation.

The original rubble-mound structure traces back to 1937, where it was built in phases by both USACE and the city of Redondo Beach. It has a crest height of up to 20 feet and was intentionally overbuilt since the Great Storm of '88.

Construction is progressing towards anticipated completion in mid-November as over 1,300 tons of new stone from Catalina Island have been placed.
