Trump administration to cancel lease for USACE office in Jacksonville

The Trump administration will terminate the lease for the Army Corps of Engineers Florida office in Jacksonville in August, but has not announced any personnel or program cuts to the 800 federal employees who work there.

The administration has not announced plans to close field offices in Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington, Weston and Clewiston, which house 300 employees, spokesperson Michelle Roberts told TCPalm.

The Florida offices currently oversee 68 projects and supervise operations for:

  • Billion-dollar Everglades restoration work,
  • Lake Okeechobee water levels and discharges to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers,
  • Reservoirs to curb Lake O discharges, including the Everglades Agricultural Area, Lake Okeechobee Component A Reservoir, C-44 near Indiantown, and C-23/24 in St. Lucie County,
  • Okeechobee Waterway that allows boaters to travel through the state between Stuart and Fort Myers,
  • Permitting for docks, dredging, powerlines, shorelines, wetlands, beach renourishment and other coastal projects, etc.
