With this large-scale modernisation, Port of Antwerp-Bruges is joining forces with PSA Belgium to increase the container capacity and upgrade the infrastructure to meet future demands.

The project will be undertaken in three major phases, with each phase involving the upgrade of one-third of the new quayside while keeping the remaining section operational.

Also, in order to receive container shipping with a draught of 16 meters (maximum draught when sailing upstream), the quay wall of the new terminal will be dredged.

Phase one of the project is being delivered by a consortium of four contractors (Artes-Roegiers, Artes-Depret, Herbosch-Kiere, and Boskalis).

They are responsible for demolishing the existing quayside, installing temporary structures, and constructing the initial segment of the new 1.2-kilometre-long quayside, which will feature a 16-metre draught.
