The USACE Philadelphia District has just released a couple of photos from the recently completed beach nourishment work on Absecon Island (Atlantic City and Ventnor), NJ.
This project, conducted by Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD), is vital for storm protection, beach preservation and maintaining public access along Absecon Island, said USACE.
The dredging and pumping operations began on November 24 at the northern end of Atlantic City.
The contract included dredging and placing 1.2 million cubic yards of sand onto the beaches.
Sand for the project came from two designated borrow areas – one located within Absecon Inlet and the other in the Atlantic Ocean offshore of the island.
