This project includes the following activities:

  • the new work dredging by mechanical methods of the 209,250 square foot (sf) W F Magann East Yard (site) to a maximum depth of -17 feet MLLW,
  • the future maintenance dredging by mechanical methods of the 209,250 sf site to a maximum depth of -17 feet MLLW,
  • the initial removal of approximately 59,250 cubic yards, and the subsequent removal of approximately 20,000 cubic yards per maintenance cycle,
  • the disposal of the dredged material via scows to Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area, Shirley Plantation, and/or an approved upland facility.

According to USACE, the proposed dredging footprint has been designed to limit the impacts to the maximum extent practicable.

The decision whether to issue a permit will be based on an evaluation of the probable impact including cumulative impacts of the proposed activity on the public interest,” said USACE.
