The event, led by Admiral Raymundo Morales Ángeles, head of the Semar, and Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, represents a key step forward in strengthening port infrastructure, guaranteeing the competitiveness of one of the most important ports in Mexico.

According to Morales Ángeles, the modernisation and expansion of the port will increase the capacity to receive larger vessels and generate economic benefits for coastal communities, providing development opportunities for the population, especially young people.

The modernization of the Port of Progreso is the backbone of the Mayan Renaissance, a comprehensive strategy to build a more fair, competitive and opportunity-filled Yucatan. With this project, we will attract investments, generate quality jobs and reduce economic gaps,” said Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena.

The Port of Progreso development project involves deepening of the port and expanding it by an additional 80 hectares, increasing its operational capacity to 116 hectares and consolidating its position as the key port in southeastern Mexico.
