Minister Rayalu tours Ba River dredging (VIDEO)

Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Vatimi Rayalu, toured the Ba River mouth dredging program earlier this week to witness first hand work being done to desilt river mouth to lessen flooding on Ba town.

This work is part of an initiative to improve the management of the flood risks and events through flood mitigation works for all major river systems in Fiji.

The project involves dredging operations on a 3.6-kilometer stretch from the Ba River mouth to the open sea and removing around 300,000 cubic meters of silt.

These efforts are set to improve the river’s capacity to discharge excess water, helping to protect Ba town and surrounding communities from future floods.
