In what is a first for Irish ports, Port of Waterford and Boskalis are partnering with Certa Ireland to undertake a maintenance dredging campaign using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). The campaign is expected to take approximately two weeks and utilising HVO, instead of Marine Gas Oil will prevent 100 tonnes of carbon entering the atmosphere.
“ This further demonstrates our commitment to lowering carbon emissions and reducing our consumption of natural resources ,” said Port of Waterford .
The campaign will be undertaken with the Boskalis dredger “Causeway”.
