It is necessary work to provide additional clearance to the seabed for vessels using Weinam Creek,” Mayor Jos Mitchell said.

“Council contractors will also be undertaking associated environmental monitoring and survey as required during the works.”

Dredging work in the vicinity of the ferry terminal is expected to be completed before Christmas.

According to the council, this work helps improve safety while boarding at low tide by reducing the variation in height between the jetty and docking ferries.

The dredging operations are expected to recommence in the main dredging area of the creek from January 6, 2025 and continue until mid to late March.
