Every two years, USACE dredges the sand trap and channels near the entrance of Channel Islands Harbor. Dredging of the area has been conducted regularly since 1960.

According to the Corps, this year’s project includes a base bid for the first dredging cycle plus two options for additional dredging cycles.

USACE estimates dredging about 2 to 2.5 million cubic yards of sand during the project. Material dredged from the federal navigation channels and sand traps will be pumped across the harbor entrance, down Silver Strand Beach and deposited just to the south of the Port of Hueneme.

The contract award is expected in early 2025, with project completion scheduled before the end of Q1.
