The vessels reclaimed new land in the port area, which in the near future will be used for new developments and customs activities for outbound and inbound (freight) traffic between the United Kingdom and the European mainland.

Boskalis Westminster worked on this second phase of the Western Docks Revival-program project in a joint venture with Mclaughlin & Harvey.

Over the last two months our colleagues constructed a closure bund at Wick channel and Wellington dock and decommissioned the old yacht moorings. Initially the reclaimed material was sprayed in thin layers using the Steenbok to cap the existing seabed material, thereafter the team moved onto a land-based reclamation,” said Boskalis.

In the end, they deposited over 650,000 cubic meters of material using the trailer suction hopper dredger Gateway.
