Earlier this year, 114,000 cubic yards of sand were delivered as part of the USACE project, and the contractor – Manson Construction is returning to place the remaining 86,000 cubic yards of sand.

The USACE project is a 50-year project that will occur approximately every 5 years and will place around 200,000 cubic yards of sand during each event.

Similar to construction activity earlier this year, the public can expect to see placement of a dredge pipeline on the beach south of the pier, storage of materials such as pipeline segments and sand moving equipment, and temporary construction staging in the upper pier bowl parking lot.

Additionally, small areas of the beach will be closed during active sand placement operation to ensure the protection of public safety.

The total cost of construction for this project is $16,000,000, and is funded 65% by the federal government, and 35% by the City of San Clemente with the assistance of California State Parks, supported by grant funding from the California Public Beach Restoration Fund.
