Work on the beaches is expected to begin in late September in Beach Haven before heading south toward the Holgate section of Long Beach Township.

The $54.4 million Barnegat Inlet to Little Egg Inlet (Long Beach Island) Coastal Storm Risk Management project calls for dredging more than 1,750,000 million cubic yards of sand from the approved offshore sand borrow area.

The sand will be pumped onto the beach at a number of the most eroded portions of the project within Harvey Cedars, Beach Haven and Long Beach Township.

The sand is then graded into an engineered dune and berm template, which is designed to reduce damages from coastal storm events.

The deadline to complete the Long Beach Island nourishment project is May 6, 2025.
