VIDEO: Stabilizing Grand-Lahou peninsula by DEME

Coastal Erosion

The fishing village of Lahou-Kpanda on the Grand-Lahou peninsula in the Ivory Coast illustrates the climate challenges the region is facing. At the moment, the advancing sea threatens to swallow the village, forcing residents to relocate.

Last year, DEME was awarded a tender organized by The World Bank to stabilize the Grand-Lahou peninsula.

The project includes dredging channels in the Tagba Lagoon to ensure safe navigation for fishermen, creating a new pass from the lagoon to the sea, and reinforcing the existing sand barrier with 1 million m³ of sand.

The project will take approximately one year to complete, said DEME.
