According to the Army Corps, this essential maintenance project is designed to ensure the continued safe and efficient navigation of the Long Island Intracoastal Waterway at Shinnecock Bay.

The dredging will remove accumulated sediment from the navigation channel, restoring it to its authorized dimensions and improving water flow, which is crucial for both commercial and recreational vessels operating in the area.

Shinnecock Bay is a vital component of Long Island’s maritime infrastructure, supporting local economies and providing significant environmental and recreational benefits to the region. The dredging work will help to maintain this critical waterway, ensuring it remains accessible and safe for all users.

The project scope includes the removal of sediment from the channel and the proper disposal of dredged materials in accordance with environmental regulations. This work will help prevent shoaling, reduce the risk of groundings, and enhance overall navigational safety in Shinnecock Bay.
