Dredging is required to deepen the harbor for vessels to safely access the new facilities across the harbor’s tidal range.

According to the NT Infrastructure, Heron Construction Company and SMC Marine will use a backhoe dredger to excavate the access channel, turning basin and berthing areas of the new Mandorah Marine Facility.

Dredged material excavated from the access channel will be loaded into split hopper barges for disposal at the nominated offshore disposal area immediately North of West Point, or offloaded within the construction breakwaters for the Mandorah marine facility.

The Mandorah dredging project is expected to take place from late-August 2024 until November 2024.
