This major effort on Folly is improving the coastal defenses against mother nature, reducing the risk to life and infrastructure behind the dunes and bolstering resiliency.

USACE anticipates the renourishment will be completed within the next couple weeks. “Please keep in mind that it could take longer to complete depending on mechanical and weather delays,” the Corps said in the update.

The last Folly Beach renourishment campaign took place in 2018. The current $18 million beachfill project, which is 100 percent funded by the federal government, includes placing around 1.3 million cubic yards of sand. The work began this spring and is expected to end in early September.
