In August 2021, Hurricane Ida struck the coast with tremendous force, devastating everything in its path, including the marshes of Little Lake.

This area lost over 90% of its vegetative cover, severely damaging this fragile ecosystem.

Recently, Louisiana CPRA and its partners began engineering and designing a comprehensive marsh creation project.

This $43.7 million initiative aims to restore nearly 370 acres of marsh and 7,100 feet of shoreline enhance resilience.

The project is expected to begin late next year, marking a significant step towards rebuilding and protecting this vital ecosystem.
