The sand filling and construction of bottom protection under the pavement for stage 3 is now complete, marking the end of a significant part of the works, the Port said in its latest project update.

The last load of sand has been delivered by the hopper dredger Ostend, adding in total 400,000 m³ of sand to the area.

According to the update, this creates a solid foundation for the continued development of the port infrastructure.

At the same time, we are in full swing with the concrete work on quay 36 and the ro-ro ramp. The local branch of NCC on Bornholm is responsible for the delivery of concrete. The concrete work is expected to continue until the end of October,” Dan Harborg Locht, Project Director at MT Højgaard, said.

“The structures we are making now are crucial to ensure that the port can handle the increased traffic and the larger ships that the expanded port will be able to receive.”

Stage 3 of the future-proofing project is about creating more than 100,000m2 of larger project area in the south end of the port, among other things by partially filling the former fishing basin, where there is minimal activity today.

In addition, a new Ro-Ro ramp and a new 280m long quay will be established opposite the current in the south end of the port.
