Magdalena Grand Beach gets new breakwater system

The Ministry of Works and Transport’s Coastal Protection Unit has completed construction of a breakwater system at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort, Tobago.

The scope of the project included construction of of three armour stone sills, construction of temporary access road and four emergent breakwaters.

The breakwater system is aimed at meeting the following objectives: reduce the frequency and severity of coastal erosion and inundation at the project area; alleviate coastal erosion by structural protection of critical assets of the resort, and increase the amenity value of the project area by creating a safe bathing area.

This vital infrastructure now stands strong, protecting the hotel and its facilities from the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
