Duval County shore protection project almost done

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District has reported great news for beach lovers – USACE Duval team expects Great Lakes Dredge & Dock to complete sand placement along the county shoreline this week.

The team will have placed more than 1.3 million cubic yards of sand along the shore to strengthen its resilience to storm and erosion impacts, expand recreational space along the water, and create additional habitat and environmental stability for marine life and shorebirds, USACE said in the update.

GLDD will demobilize equipment over the next two weeks with activity focused on Abbey Hanna Park and the 16th Ave. So. staging area.

The 2024 Duval County Shore Protection Project is aimed to protect nearly 10 miles of eroded beaches and dunes, including Jacksonville, Neptune, and Atlantic beaches into portions of Hanna Park.
