Spotlight on Bucktown Living Shoreline and Marsh Restoration

Louisiana CPRA has released a video update on the Bucktown Living Shoreline and Marsh Restoration Project.

The Bucktown Marsh Restoration and Living Shoreline is a partnership with Jefferson Parish to revitalize the lakefront.

This project is rebuilding a previously existing intertidal marsh and adding multiple lines of defense to the levees along this area of Lake Pontchartrain.

Nine rock breakwaters were installed to decrease wave erosion.

Over 20 acres of marsh is being constructed using a dredge to pump in borrow material. Once this area has settled, vegetative plantings will reintroduce a vibrant ecology of plants and wildlife, said CPRA.
