EXCLUSIVE: Work on Boskalis’ mega hopper dredger in full swing

Dredging

Two large side sections of the Boskalis’ new mega hopper dredger are currently under construction at the Royal IHC Krimpen.

The two sections (seen in the photo) with also the bottom dump doors were spotted when they were transported by using the Lekstroom Transport coupled barges.

The new vessel, one of the largest hopper dredgers in the Boskalis fleet, features energy-efficient design including the full diesel-electric installation and propulsion via Azipods.

One of the features is the use of (green) methanol as an alternative fuel. The methanol plant and storage tanks on board make this switch possible.

The new vessel is expected to enter service in mid-2026.
